About this research
Ortus Economic Research is doing this research on behalf of Alnwick Town Council. The research will help inform the Council’s review of the Alnwick & Denwick Neighbourhood Plan, which sets out ambitions for the future of the town and planning policies and proposals to realise these ambitions. You have been asked to take part in the research because you operate a business in Alnwick.
The data controller for this research project is Alnwick Town Council – see Contact below. The data controller ‘determines the purposes and means of processing personal data’. The legal basis for this research is ‘public task’ – the processing is necessary for Alnwick Town Council to perform a task in the public interest or for its official functions, and the task or function has a clear basis in law.
Taking part in this research is voluntary and you have the right to withdraw from the research at any time – see Your rights below.
How your data will be used
The research is confidential. This means that your/your organisation’s identity will only be accessed by Ortus Economic Research for the purposes of this research. Alnwick Town Council will not know you have taken part and will only receive aggregated data (which means your responses will be mixed in with the views of many other businesses) and research reports will only contain anonymous data (which means you and your business will not be named, nor identifiable from any of your answers).
If you agree to take part in further research, you will be asked to provide contact details. This data will only be accessed by Ortus Economic Research for the purposes of inviting you to participate in follow-up research relating to the Local Economic Assessment and the review of the Alnwick & Denwick Neighbourhood Plan. Your details will not be shared with Alnwick Town Council or any other organisation.
How we keep your information safe
Ortus Economic Research uses a wide range of technology to ensure that any personal data we hold is processed, stored and transferred in a secure way. This includes encryption, password protection and limiting access to personal data to key staff only. We regularly review our processes, hardware, software and policies to ensure we maintain personal data securely.
Your rights

- Withdrawal of consent – you have a right to withdraw from the research at any time. Any personal data will then be deleted from any research study or database in which you are identifiable.

- Amendment to personal data – a right to have any personal data held about you amended.
- Erase personal data (‘right to be forgotten’) – a right to have personal data erased.
- Object to processing – a right to object to processing in certain circumstances
- Restrict processing – a right to restrict the processing of personal data in certain circumstances. This means that an individual can limit the ways that an organisation uses their data. It is different to requesting the erasure of personal data.
